One of the big selling points of recent Geek Bar vapes like the Geek Bar Pulse is the fact that the company is now putting screens on all of its latest devices. The screen has an e-liquid meter that’s supposed to represent the device’s e-liquid supply, thus letting you know when it’s almost time for a new vape.
When the e-liquid meter on your Geek Bar reaches the bottom, it’s true that your device is running low on vape juice. You could still potentially have hundreds of puffs left, though, because what’s shown on the screen isn’t an exact representation of what’s in your device. Instead, it’s more like an educated guess.
The reason why the smart screen on a disposable vape can’t tell you exactly how much vape juice the device has left is because no one has invented a sensor that can go inside a vape’s e-liquid container. Maybe that’ll come in the future. In the meantime, though, what’s shown on the screen is a representation of a software algorithm that estimates how much vape juice remains in the device based on how long you’ve been using it so far.
You’ll notice that when the screen on a Geek Bar says that the device is empty, there’s usually still enough e-liquid for many more puffs. That’s because the algorithms are tuned to be conservative. If disposable vapes consistently ran out of e-liquid when their screens said that there was still vape juice left, consumers would be pretty angry – so the algorithms are designed to avoid that situation.
How Long Does a Geek Bar Last?
So, how long should a Geek Bar last before it runs out of vape juice? Here’s another area where the information from the manufacturer doesn’t quite line up with reality.
The popular Geek Bar Pulse, for instance, is advertised to last up to 15,000 puffs. If you actually count the number of times you can hit the device before it’s empty, though, we can almost guarantee that you won’t actually reach 15,000 puffs. That’s for two reasons.
- Big numbers sell vapes, so all manufacturers exaggerate the capabilities of their devices. Just a few years ago, a device with 16 ml of vape juice like the Geek Bar Pulse would have been rated to deliver around 5-6,000 puffs rather than 15,000.
- If it’s possible to get 15,000 puffs out of the Geek Bar Pulse at all, you’d have to take extremely short puffs to get to that number – much shorter than most people are likely to take.
There’s another way to determine how long a Geek Bar should last, and it’s much more reliable than trusting the smart screen or the advertised puff count – you can base your expectation on the nicotine content instead.
A Geek Bar Pulse, for example, contains 16 ml of e-liquid with a nicotine strength of 50 mg/ml. That means it has 800 mg of nicotine in total. A tobacco cigarette has a nicotine delivery of around 2 mg – so when you use 2 mg of nicotine with your Geek Bar Pulse, you should feel about as satisfied as if you had smoked a cigarette.
There are two caveats here.
- Although a Geek Bar Pulse contains 16 ml of e-liquid, you won’t actually be able to use every drop because a small amount of vape juice will remain stuck in the device’s container.
- The nicotine in e-cigarette vapor isn’t as bioavailable as the nicotine in cigarette smoke, so you’ll probably have to use a little more than 2 mg of nicotine in order to feel satisfied.
With those two things being said, it’s definitely realistic to expect a Geek Bar to last at least as long as a carton of cigarettes.
Can You Make a Geek Bar Last Longer?
If you’ve been using Geek Bars for a while and find that they don’t actually last as long for you as a carton of cigarettes, you’re probably vaping more than you really need to. That’s common when people first switch to vaping, and one of the reasons why it happens is because vapes taste so much better than cigarettes. Try one of these strategies to make your Geek Bars last longer.
- Put your Geek Bar out of reach when you’re not using it. That way, you’ll have to get up in order to vape and will be unlikely to do so unless you actually need the nicotine.
- Try counting the number of puffs that you take per day. A cigarette lasts about 10 puffs, so you’re about the equivalent of a pack-a-day smoker if you puff on your Geek Bar 200 times a day.
